Time Warner Inc.'s (TWX) America Online and Brightcove, and Internet TV company, launched a distribution service enabling video publishers to sell video downloads through the AOL Video portal and receive up to 70% of the revenue generated from their sales.
AOL said using Brightcove, any video publisher can easily have their video downloads distributed and sold through AOL Video. Consumers can buy and download the videos.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Brightcove Network has been in test mode for months and is being used by media and entertainment companies such as Reuters Group PLC, Viacom Inc.'s MTV Networks, and Dow Jones & Co., publisher of The Wall Street Journal and this newswire.
Previously, only content owners selected by Brightcove could use the network, but now any media company or professional video-content owner will be able to launch a Web video channel at Brightcove.
